CSC Hosts: Black and Pink Holiday Card-Making

  • Starts: 5:00 pm on Thursday, December 8, 2016
  • Ends: 7:00 pm on Thursday, December 8, 2016
Join the CSC for a chill evening of coloring holiday cards, created by incarcerated folks, to send to Black and Pink LGBTQ+ incarcerated folks. As you can imagine, the holiday season is often a really rough time for folks inside prison. Incarcerated folks are often denied the ability to celebrate their traditions in the ways they choose: the returning of light for Solstice, the miracle of Hanukkah, the birth story of Jesus, the Black radical tradition of Kwanzaa, New Year’s Day, or something else altogether. All too often incarcerated LGBTQ+ folks do not have family and friends to reach out to them with cards or visits, making this time particularly isolating. The cards you will make bring a flash of joy, and kindness to Black and Pink members while telling prison staff that people on the outside are watching. Black & Pink is an open family of LGBTQ prisoners and “free world” allies who support each other. Our work toward the abolition of the prison industrial complex is rooted in the experience of currently and formerly incarcerated people. We are outraged by the specific violence of the prison industrial complex against LGBTQ people, and respond through advocacy, education, direct service, and organizing.
