Healthcare Emergency Management Spring Distinguished Speaker Series Presents: Dr. Dan Hanfling on "Catastrophic Disaster Preparedness - Adopting a Systems Approach." Explore current planning for catastrophic events - what framework needs to be adopted, examine the description of 'crisis standards of care' and explain their evolution over the past decade, and describe the 5 key elements of 'crisis standards of care', including the role of 'community engagement.' Dr. Hanfling is special advisor to the Inova Health System in Falls Church, Virginia on matters related to emergency preparedness and disaster response. He serves as Vice Chair of the National Academy of Sciences Institute of Medicine Committee on Establishing Guidelines for Standards of Care for Use in Disaster Situations.
