Second Sex/Third Body: Beauvoir, Cixous

  • Starts: 4:00 pm on Thursday, November 8, 2012
  • Ends: 6:00 pm on Thursday, November 8, 2012
Since the publication of Hélène Cixous' "Laugh of the Medusa" in the volume of L'Arc (1975) devoted to Simone de Beauvoir, the two names have drifted far apart. This presentation will address the divide between Simone de Beauvoir and Hélène Cixous, and the comparative reception of their works, in the context of the recent retranslation of The Second Sex (2010), ten years after the reissue of Cixous' Le Troisième Corps (The Third Body). Talk by Marie-Dominique Garnier, Women's, Gender, & Sexuality Studies International Visiting Scholar. Professor of English Literature and Gender Studies at the Centre d'Etudes féminines et d'Etudes de Genre (The Center for Feminine and Gender Studies) at the University of Paris. This event is FREE and open to the public. Sponsored by the Women's, Gender, & Sexuality Studies Program. Email wgs@bu.edu for further information. Join us on FACEBOOK Bu Wgs
