University-wide Training on Sexual Misconduct Now Available

From Dr. Jean Morrison, University Provost and Chief Academic Officer

In February, I announced to the community through email, a website communication, and a BU Today article that Boston University would be moving to implement mandatory University-wide sexual misconduct training for all students, faculty, and staff. I promised to share more information with you as the rollout approaches. This email is an update on our progress.

Starting today, the faculty and staff training courses are available to take through the Terrier eDevelopment Learning Management Platform (LMS). This fall, courses will be formally assigned to you based upon your roles and responsibilities, and you will be required to complete your courses within a specific timeframe. If you complete the courses over the summer, you will receive credit when they are assigned to you this fall. You can complete the courses over several sessions; your progress is saved in the system. The table below shows the planned assignments. Staff will take either the EVERFI Supervisor or Non-Supervisor course, depending on whether they have supervisory responsibilities. All faculty will take two courses: a very short course focused on Sexual Misconduct policies at BU; and either the EVERFI Supervisor course (for those who formally supervise others) or the EVERFI “Bridges” course, which focuses on faculty responsibilities to students.

I also want to take this opportunity to thank the many people who have brought the implementation to this point. They have worked very hard to provide the opportunity for the community to begin these courses in the summer when the pace is more relaxed. An equally intense effort has gone into implementing the required training for all of our students, which begins in August.

Finally, thank you for educating yourself about these critical issues, and for helping Boston University become a safer environment in which to teach, work, and learn.
