Appointment of First Arvind and Chandan Nandlal Kilachand Professor

March 29th, 2012

From: Dr. Jean Morrison, University Provost and Chief Academic Officer

I am delighted to announce that Prof. Charles Dellheim has been named the first holder of the Arvind and Chandan Nandlal Kilachand Professorship in his role as Director of the Kilachand Honors College.

This professorship was recently established thanks to the generosity of businessman, philanthropist, and BU alumnus Rajen Kilachand (GSM ’74), whose extraordinary gift of $25 million to the University has created an endowment for the Kilachand Honors College and will expand the quality and range of intellectual opportunities for BU students for many years to come. A portion of this gift has been set aside to fund this important new professorship.

Professor Dellheim is a distinguished scholar in the Department of History and has been Director of the University Honors College – last fall renamed the Kilachand Honors College – since 2009. He has brought exceptional leadership to this position. By design, he will hold the Arvind and Chandan Nandlal Kilachand Professorship for the duration of his term as Director.

Professor Dellheim’s appointment is an important step forward for the University and for the Kilachand Honors College, which is each day reinventing liberal education for the 21st century, introducing students to a host of unique interdisciplinary research, creative and professional learning opportunities.

Please join me in congratulating Professor Dellheim and wishing him well in this important new appointment. We look forward to following his success and to seeing many great ideas, innovations and talented individuals emerge from the Kilachand Honors College in the years ahead.
