Nutrition in the New Year: Gluten-free and vegetarian

It’s a brand new year and that means many people have nutrition and diets on their minds.  Today, Professor Voices kicks off a week-long series called “Nutrition in the New Year” that takes a look at some of the many special diets that individuals follow either because of a medical reason, such as an allergy or intolerance, or simply because they feel it may be a healthier lifestyle choice.

In this first installment, Joan Salge Blake, clinical associate professor of nutrition and a registered dietitian, offers her take on going gluten-free or following a vegetarian or vegan diet.

Tomorrow, Joan discusses dairy-free and raw foods diets.  Later in the week, we’ll get some perspective on the ways food manufacturers are marketing or packaging their products to highlight how they fit into specific diets.  Finally, the series wraps up with a look at the services the Sargent Choice Nutrition Center and Dining Services provide to help BU students with specific dietary needs or restrictions.
