NBA season possible?

October 27th, 2011

Following a 15-hour meeting, the NBA and the players’ union say enough progress has been made to possibly salvage an 82-game season. Frank Shorr, who teaches sports journalism at BU’s College of Communication and is director of the Boston University Sports Institute, offers the following comment:

“It’s no wonder the NBA owners want to salvage an 82-game schedule given the price of tickets. This just reinforces the players’ point of view that the franchises make money.

“An 82-game schedule would force the owners to pay full player salaries, something they’d never do it they weren’t profitable.

“What remains to be seen is whether fans and players will respond to five games in seven nights.”
