Born in 1964 in Lowell, MA, David Hilliard holds a BFA from Massachusetts College of Art and Design and an MFA from Yale University. Drawing inspiration from his personal life, Hilliard creates narrative-based, multi-panel, color panoramas. His work has been shown at museums around the country and the world, and featured in a wide rage of reviews and publications. A 2001 Guggenheim recipient, Hilliard earned a Fulbright Scholars Program grant in 1995. A monograph of his work, David Hilliard: Photographs, was published by Aperture in 2005. Hilliard actively participates in artist-in-residency programs and leads workshops; he was recently an artist in residence at Cranbrook Academy of Art and has taught at venues such as the Anderson Ranch Art Center, Alaska Photographic Center, and the Provincetown Fine Arts Work Center. Hilliard teaches at Massachusetts College of Art and Design and has taught a Summer Masters Workshop at the PRC.
