Talia Chetrit is a current MFA student at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), expected to graduate in spring 2008; she previously earned her BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2004. Exhibited at galleries from New York to Rhode Island as well as the Pingyao International Photography Festival in China, Chetrit was most recently featured in the regional juried graduate show, Boston Young Contemporaries and New Faces: New Art at the Warwick Museum of Art. She has also shown recently at Priska Juschka and Plane Space in New York, NY.
Featured online are selections from Chetrit's current series, The Rise , in which she photographs a variety of common objects—from matted grass to a rainbow reflected on the wall—to break down and then rebuild a system of sense and knowledge. When shown together, the individual photographs build a grammar that is somehow simultaneously understandable and elusive.
