Frederick Harris Jewell lived in Shanghai, China between 1921 and 1937. He arrived there at age 24, and traveled to points north including Manchuria, Mongolia, and Chosen (Korea). He carried a Graflex B camera wherever he traveled, documenting hand painted tobacco ads and people. Photographer John Cornelius has assembled Jewell's images and artifacts and created the F. H. Jewell Archive.
