Born into a working class Pennsylvania family, Michals has enjoyed a successful career in advertising and editorial work. Frequently dealing with human sexuality, Michals’s photographs often include his trademark hand-written notes. Michals’s work has been collected and exhibited extensively worldwide in institutions as diverse as the International Center of Photography, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, Muse de l’Elysee, Lausanne, Switzerland.
