pamela ellis hawkes Based in Rockport, Massachusetts, Pamela Ellis Hawkes is a rising star in the New England photography community. Hawkes has exhibited her work in numerous exhibitions around the United States including a one-person show at the Houston Center for Photography. Hawkes also received a Juror's Award in the 2001 PRC Members' Exhibition and has been published in such esteemed journals as Lenswork, Photography Quarterly, and The Photo Review. In 1995 and 1994, she received the prestigious Ernst Haas Annual Photography Awards. Hawkes also received the 21st Journal of Contemporary Photography Award through The Print Center (Philadelphia) in 2000. Her work is represented in the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, the Polaroid Corporation and the Boston Public Library, among others. She is represented by the Pepper Gallery. Hawkes stunning black & white photographs are reminiscent of trompe l'oeil painting and seventeenth century Dutch still life paintings. Combining two and three-dimensional objects, Hawkes still lifes play with the ambiguous nature of perception and visual objectivity.
