frank gohlke Massachusetts-based photographer Frank Gohlke has been awarded two Guggenheim Fellowships and two fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts. Known for his large format landscape photographs, his work has been shown at museums all over the world and included in collections such as the Museum of Modern Art, the International Museum of Photography at the George Eastman House, the Australian National Gallery, and the National Gallery of Canada. Although he was born in Texas, Gohlke’s geographical range includes central France, the American South and Midwest, and Mount St. Helens after a volcanic eruption. Desiring to acquaint himself with the New England landscape, Gohlke began photographing the Sudbury River in 1989. Selections from this series were show at the DeCordova Museum in 1993. Recently, he has allowed human activity (or remnants thereof) to enter into in his resplendent landscapes. In this print, originally offered in the 1990 PRC Members Print Program, we find, quite simply and elegantly, the unbridled beauty of a fall day.
