Education: Ph.D., Columbia University, 1961; M.A. and Certificate of the Russian Institute, Columbia University, 1957; A.B., Notre Dame University, 1955 (Magna Cum Laude.)
Areas of Specialization: Negotiation, International Relations, American Foreign Policy, Post-Soviet Studies, the Baltic Region, Culture and Human Development.

Professor Clemens has written or edited some fifteen books including Dynamics of International Relations: Conflict and Mutual Gain in An Era of Global Interdependence; America and the World, 1898-2025, Achievements, Failures, Alternative Futures; and The Baltic Transformed: Complexity Theory and European Security. He has written many book chapters, scholarly articles, and newspaper articles in the areas of Soviet politics and international relations. He current book projects are Peace in Korea? Negotiating Conflict and Mutual Gain and Three Revolutions That Changed the World: Literacy, Free Thought, and Human Development
