NO
END IN SIGHT examines the manner in which the principal errors of U.S. policy – the
use of insufficient troop levels, allowing the looting of Baghdad, the purging
of professionals from the Iraqi government, and the disbanding of the Iraqi military – created
the insurgency and chaos that engulf Iraq today. Nominated for a 2008 Academy
Award.
OPERATION
HOMECOMING is a unique documentary that explores the firsthand
accounts of American servicemen and women through their own words.
The stories recounted here are sad, funny, violent and uplifting.
Yet each one displays an honesty and intensity that is rarely seen
in explorations of the war. Nominated for a 2008 Academy Award.
In SICKO, acclaimed filmmaker Michael Moore sets out to investigate
the American healthcare system. Sticking to his tried-and-true
one-man approach, Moore sheds light on the complicated medical
affairs of individuals and local communities. Sicko promises to
be every bit as indicting as Moore’s
previous films. Nominated for a 2008 Academy Award.
WAR PHOTOGRAPHER is a film about James Nachtwey, a committed, shy
man, who is considered one of the bravest and most important war
photographers of our time - but hardly fits the cliché of the hard-boiled
war veteran.
Nominated for a 2001 Academy Award.
The
PRISONER: HOW I PLANNED TO KILL TONY BLAIR
Part
personal odyssey and part chronicle of diplomacy in action, this
documentary follows Senator Obama as he travels to the land of
his ancestry.
When
filmmaker Richard Kassebaum learned that his brother Bill, a rancher
and country lawyer, had decided to run for the Kansas House, he
set out to chronicle the campaign. BILL’S RUN follows his
journey through the primary-a comical and sometimes painful quest-as
he takes on the Republican incumbent and fights to preserve a lifestyle
quickly disappearing from rural America.
CAN
MR. SMITH GET TO WASHINGTON ANYMORE? follows the 2004 campaign
of Jeff Smith, a young political science instructor who runs for
the seat vacated by retiring congressman Dick Gephardt. Pitted
against Russ Carnahan, the scion of a powerful political family,
Smith proves that an unknown with no money can make a difference,
forging a campaign that poses a serious challenge to Carnahan.
At
age 89, Doris "Granny D" Haddock walked across the country
in protest of big-money influence on elections. Five years later
in 2004, she got a chance to run for the U.S. Senate in New Hampshire.
RUN GRANNY RUN! chronicles the charismatic activist hero in her
colorful travels, director Marlo Poras took home the Audience Award
for Documentary Feature at the 2007 SXSW.
