CAMPUS SAFETY MESSAGE

Boston University

Office of the Executive Director of Public Safety

Campus Safety Message: December 20, 2016The holiday season is here and another academic semester draws to a close. Although the mood throughout the community is festive (and studious!), I would like to take this opportunity to run through some important safety tips while you make final arrangements for Intersession. If you’re leaving Boston, please remember:

1.       Don’t leave valuables behind in plain view. Secure important items in a safe place during your absence;

2.       Make sure all windows and doors are closed and locked; and,

3.       Please unplug all stationary electrical devices, such as alarm clocks, televisions, stereos, computers, and related appliances.

Meanwhile, if you’re staying in the area, please continue to be attentive and conscientious when it comes to your personal safety.

Report all suspicious people and activity immediately to the Boston University Police Department by calling 617-353-2121. You can also send us an anonymous text tip to 847-411, type “BU” (without quotation marks), followed by a space, then your message.

Property crime, such as larcenies and residential burglaries, are crimes of opportunity within the City of Boston. Boston University’s Charles River and Medical Campuses are not immune to such crimes. Money, wallets, purses, laptop computers, tablets, smart phones, and other personal valuables are the favored merchandise on the shopping lists of thieves and burglars. Many of these types of crimes can easily be avoided if you stick to the three tips noted above.

Although the Boston University Police Department will be aggressively patrolling our community during your absence, your continued cooperation and diligence in crime prevention will help all of us reduce the threat of burglaries and thefts in our community, and lessen the chances of personal property being stolen.

All of us on the Boston University Police Department wish you a safe, happy, and restful Intersession!  We’ll see you in 2017!

Sincerely,

Scott S. Paré

Acting Chief of Police
