Conway's Game of Life with Python (Hands-on)

Prerequisites: Python experience at least equal to that provided by our Introduction to Python for Programmers tutorial and
familiarity with using Linux from the command-line.

This tutorial is a guided hands-on project, where in two hours you will write in Python a version of Conway’s Game of Life. This project introduces you to the advantages of using Numpy, the Python array package. Time permitting, we will also explore creating interactive plots with Matplotlib, Python’s plotting library. This tutorial involves writing a series of simple functions, each one representing a task, that together will complete the program.

If you try to sign up for this tutorial and find that it is full, please send email to and we will do our best to accommodate you.
