Effective Group Work in Schools: Challenges, Opportunities and S
Description
Group Therapy is a common treatment modality used in school settings. However, schools do not always provide the training, support or guidance needed to form and lead effective school-based groups. This workshop will explore many of the challenges and benefits associated with running groups in this setting and attendees will come away with practical ideas that they can use in their current groups or in planning for future groups that they would like to run. During this workshop, attendees will explore topics such as group purpose and goal setting, confidentiality, self-disclosure, strategies for gaining student by-in, group membership, working with limited space and budgets, short term versus more ongoing groups, creative ideas for new groups, as well as other topics raised by attendees. Members will also have a chance to practice and experience some proven group activities and will leave with a list of group icebreakers and activities that can be used with a wide range of groups.
