Working with Psychiatrists for Social Workers
Description
Mental health providers must work together effectively to give patients with serious psychiatric illnesses the best care. In fact therapists are frequently the ones to recognize that patients may benefit from psychiatric medications and refer them to prescribers for treatment. Therefore it makes sense for therapists to be given the opportunity to learn about these medications and relevant updates on a regular basis. During this workshop we will review the major classes of psychiatric medication, which medicines are most effective for which psychiatric illness, and also review major side effects and why, within a given class of medication some are more likely to be selected than others. The information will be presented with emphasis on clinical relevance and clinical vignettes will be used to illustrate points. There will be plenty of time for questions and discussion.
