Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Children and Adolescents
Description
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy has been found to be effective in treating children and adolescents. However, it is important to consider the developmental needs of these populations and adapt the intervention appropriately. Concrete thinking and limited life experience can impact child/adlolescent motivation and attention, the ability to identify and gauge feelings, and the capacity for seeing the "big picture." Using didactic instruction, case summaries, videos, and experiential exercises, participants increase their understanding of how these issues impact CBT with children and adolescents. Participants emerge with basic techniques for adapting CBT to work with children and adolescents.
