Tapas and Terruņo: A Tasting of Real Wines from Spain at Taberna de Haro
The wines of Spain have made an enormous, if confusing, splash over the past 2 decades. Styles abound, and from the label it can be hard to distinguish the wine built to be a marketing workhorse versus the wine coaxed gently from timeless terroir, which is terruño in Spanish. Taberna de Haro owner Deborah Hansen trained formally as a sommelier in Madrid, and she will lead a tasting of four Spanish wines made with a distinct sense of time, place, and tradition - that is what terruño is! Generous tapas from the award-winning Spanish restaurant will be carefully paired with the wines, including warm roasted red peppers with morcilla sausage, clam and garlic empanada, black rice with cuttlefish and alioli, and braised lamb with smoky paprika. Lively discussion is sure to erupt as you experience the terroir of Rioja, Ribera del Duero, Priorat, and Rias Baixas. Limited enrollment.
