Core Issues in Aging and Disability

This two-part course provides information that will help you understand how disability and age can affect a person's quality of life. You will be interacting with a wide range of people who need services to help them maintain independence in the community. The consumers with whom you work may include younger people with disabilities and older adults who may have chronic medical conditions, psychosocial issues and functional limitations, as well as interacting with their families, friends, and extended network of care and support. It is important to develop competencies that reflect your understanding of the goals of long-term service and support programs, and the communities they serve. Among those competencies are the values, knowledge, and skills required to work with older adults and adults living with disabilities.
