IT'S MOVE-IN WEEKEND AT BOSTON UNIVERSITY
Arrivals include some 4,200 freshmen in the Class of 2009
(Boston) – This weekend some 4,200 incoming freshmen will arrive at Boston University to begin their first semester of college. They will be joining 25,000 returning BU students and another 200,000 college students attending the more than 50 colleges and universities in the Boston metropolitan area. Nearly 80 percent of Boston University’s undergraduates will live on-campus.
The best location for photographing students as they move into their residences is along Bay State Road (especially the Towers residence hall at 140 Bay State Road). Besides moving belongings into their new residences, students will be meeting with academic advisors, getting university IDs, attending orientation workshops, making and renewing friendships, and saying good-bye to parents and siblings.
Early move-in for returning students begins Wednesday, August 31. Freshmen are scheduled to move in on Saturday and Sunday, September 3 and 4, from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. On Sunday afternoon at 1:30, the annual Parents Convocation will be held, and the following morning at 10, incoming freshmen will participate in a Matriculation Ceremony at the university’s Track and Tennis Center.
Following the Class of 2009 Matriculation Ceremony, students will take part in SPLASH! at Nickerson Field — an annual fun-filled event with games, prizes, vendors, music, and a barbecue — to welcome them to Boston University, give them a chance to meet their classmates, and to learn more about many of the more than 400 student organizations available to them at Boston University.
• Parents Convocation: 1:30 p.m. Sunday, September 4, at Metcalf Hall, George Sherman Union, 775 Commonwealth Avenue, 2nd Floor.
• Class of 2009 Matriculation Ceremony: 10 a.m. Monday, September 5, at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center, 100 Ashford Street.
• SPLASH! Begins at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 5, on Nickerson Field. This annual program welcomes incoming freshmen with a barbecue, music, and a host of fun activities.
