NEW CHAIRPERSON OF RADIATION ONCOLOGY NAMED AT BOSTON MEDICAL CENTER
(Boston, Mass.) — Lisa Kachnic, MD, was recently appointed chairperson of radiation oncology at Boston Medical Center. Kachnic, who was also named assistant professor of radiation at Boston University School of Medicine, will be responsible for initiating an integrated multi-disciplinary approach to cancer care with high priority given to increased clinical and translational research. Using the expertise of the Massachusetts General Hospital's physics group, Kachnic also plans to implement significant technological improvements in radiation planning and delivery.
Kachnic had served most recently on staff at the Medical College of Virginia Hospital, in Richmond, Virginia. She received her undergraduate degree from Boston College, and her medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine. She completed her residency in radiation oncology at Massachusetts General Hospital where she served as chief resident.
She belongs to many professional organizations including the Radiation Research Society and the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology. She is also actively involved in the Radiation Oncology Group's gastro-intestinal and quality of life strategic planning committees, as well as the American College of Radiology's Patterns of Care Gastro-Intestinal Committee. Additionally, she travels to the National Institutes of Health every month to contribute to radiation oncology expertise for the National Cancer Institute's Adult Oncology Treatment Editorial Board.
Kachnic has received numerous awards and honors and has published many scientific papers.
