ETHICS, ENVIRONMENT, AND CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY TAKE CENTER STAGE AT BOSTON UNIVERSITY SYMPOSIUM
(Boston, Mass.) — Philosophers and corporate executives will come together to discuss ethical approaches to environmentalism and corporate responsibility during a two-day symposium hosted by the Boston University Philosophy Department on April 9 and 10. Sponsored by a generous gift to the Philosophy Department by Steven Karbank, a successful Missouri businessman and BU alumnus, the symposium will be held in the University’s administration center at One Sherborn Street.
Leading philosophers in the field of environmental ethics who will speak at the event include Sheldon Krimsky, professor of urban and environmental policy and planning at Tufts University; Dale Jamieson, professor of environmental studies at New York University; and Lori Gruen, assistant professor of philosophy at Wesleyan University. These scholars will address the ethics of biodiversity and transgenic speciation, the rights of animals, and responsibility for toxic materials.
A roundtable discussion of corporate responsibility will feature Andrew Hoffman, associate professor of organizational behavior at the BU School of Management, together with New England-based investment firm leaders Samuel Hallowell, Jr., vice president and founding partner of Van Liew Capital, Inc., and Steven Lydenberg, CIO of Domini Social Investments.
The symposium and its Friday evening reception are free and open to the public. Registration and parking information can be found at http://www.bu.edu/philo/environ/ .
