MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
The tragic and terrible events of this morning have shocked and saddened the entire Boston University community.
We are closely monitoring the situation as it develops, and we are in contact with the appropriate local, state and federal officials. At the moment, there is no reason to believe that there is any threat to any Boston University students, faculty, or staff, or to any Boston University facilities.
To the extent possible, we must try not to let those who resort to criminal violence set the agenda. The important business of teaching and learning should not be held hostage to terrorism. I urge all students and faculty to remain calm, and to continue to attend class. This is the most constructive response we can make to today's tragic events.
The University's counseling, medical and student support services will remain open, and are available to serve any members of the community who may need them.
Students, faculty and staff who have particular concerns, questions or issues are encouraged to contact the Office of the Dean of Students, the Provost or the President.
I am confident I speak for all of Boston University in expressing our sympathy to the victims of the attack and to their families, and our determination to continue the essential work of education.
Jon Westling
President
