DIGITAL REEF CTO STEVE AKERS AWARDED BOSTON UNIVERSITY 2009 METROPOLITAN COLLEGE DISTINGUISHED COMPUTER SCIENCE ALUMNI AWARD

(Boxborough, MA) — Digital Reef (www.digitalreefinc.com) today announced that the company’s founder and CTO, Steve Akers, has been awarded the 2009 Metropolitan College Distinguished Computer Science Alumni Award from Boston University for his work in the field of computer science at Auraria Networks. Digital Reef, formerly Auraria Networks, developed the first massively scalable unstructured data discovery and management platform. Currently, the company is focused on leveraging their eDiscovery offering as evidenced by recent partnerships with Anacomp and Mimosa Systems.

“Boston University is a hot bed for computer science exploration and I’m delighted to still be part of the University community and honored to receive this recognition,” said Steve Akers, founder and CTO, Digital Reef. “Just over seven months ago, Digital Reef came out of stealth mode. As we look to firmly establish ourselves as the go-to eDiscovery and data management solution, we remain fully committed to actively engaging in the tech and innovation scenes that make Massachusetts a breeding ground for excellence in both education and business.”

Akers has spent his career designing cutting-edge technology solutions that solve complicated and very large scale business problems. As chief technology officer in the Lucent Technologies Inc. "Wireline" business unit, Steve worked closely with Bell Laboratories to deliver large-scale technologies for integrating data, optical and wireless networking across a common set of IP technologies. Steve came to Lucent from Spring Tide Networks, a company he co-founded in 1998. During Steve's tenure, Spring Tide became the premier provider of "IP Service Intelligent" switches for enhanced data services over IP networks. Steve and his team architected and designed the wireless, wire line and broadband platform that inspired the purchase of Spring Tide by Lucent in 2000. Prior to this, Akers served as chief technology officer and key architect at Shiva Corporation and partnered with Nortel networks to deliver remote access server and carrier-based VPN technologies.

The presentation of this award will take place Saturday, October 17, 2009 at the 30th Anniversary Celebration of Computer Science at Boston University. For more information on this event, please visit www.bu.edu/met/cs30.

About Digital Reef
Digital Reef has created the first massively scalable unstructured data management platform for automatically discovering vital information trapped within vast stores of unstructured data. By rapidly examining all of an enterprise’s data and identifying relevant content, Digital Reef allows organizations to respond quickly when called upon to find specific information—even if they didn’t previously know they had it. Large enterprises use Digital Reef to significantly reduce the burden, cost and risk associated with locating and producing required information for eDiscovery, risk mitigation, knowledge reuse and storage management processes. With Digital Reef, enterprises know what they have, where it is and how to access it when they need it.

Founded in 2006, Digital Reef is headquartered in Boxborough, Mass. For more information call 978-893-1000 or visit (www.digitalreefinc.com).
