BOSTON UNIVERSITY ACADEMY STUDENT PERFORMED AT 2009 BOSTON ARTS FESTIVAL

(Boston) – Boston University Academy (BUA) senior William Kong Maness, son of Dr. William L. Maness and Dr. Celeste Kong Maness of Boston, performed at the 2009 Boston Arts Festival with the Community Music Center of Boston. The performance took place on September 11 at Columbus Park on the waterfront behind Faneuil Hall as part of Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino’s annual 3-day art festival featuring music, dance, and theatrical performances and art exhibitions. Maness, who plays both the acoustic and bass guitars, performed alongside The Boston Ballet, young Saxophonist sensation Grace Kelly, Boston Gay Men’s Chorus, Balletrox, and Opera Boston.

According to Head of BUA James Berkman, “Will is a founding member of our Jazz Band and a talented musician. We look forward to many more exciting performances in the future.” Maness is scheduled to graduate from BUA in 2010.

Boston University Academy is a small, day school for students in grades 9 through 12. Founded in 1993, the Academy offers a “ceilingless” educational experience, one in which students’ zeal for learning takes them as far as they are capable. Academy students may begin taking courses at Boston University in their junior year, earning college credit in up to twelve courses by graduation. The Boston Arts Festival is presented by TARGET and co-sponsored by Metro Boston, WBUR, Gillette, and Hunt Alternatives Fund. The 3-day festival takes place at Christopher Columbus Park, conveniently located on Boston’s waterfront between Faneuil Hall Marketplace and Boston’s historic North End. The Park is easily accessed via public transportation: Blue Line to Aquarium stop, Green Line to the Haymarket stop, or the Orange Line also to Haymarket stop.
