(Boston) – Newton resident Scharukh Jalisi, MD, FACS, recently was named director of the division of Head and Neck Surgical Oncology and Skullbase Surgery at Boston Medical Center (BMC). Jalisi, who also serves as an assistant professor of head and neck surgery as well as neurosurgery at Boston University School of Medicine, will be responsible for ensuring patients receive the most expeditious delivery of head and neck cancer care in Massachusetts.
This new position was created to improve the delivery of surgical services to head and neck cancer patients, in collaboration with radiation oncology, medical oncology, neurosurgery, radiology, rehabilitation therapies, oral surgery, prosthetics, nursing and discharge management. “Our goal is to develop a system that provides patients easy access and the latest technological innovations in care,” said Jalisi. “In addition to training the future leaders in head and neck surgery, this service will allow us to collaborate on research protocols with multiple departments both on and off the medical campus,” he added.
Jalisi received a BA/MD degree from Boston University’s combined seven-year program. He performed his internship in surgery and his residency in head and neck surgery at BMC, serving as administrative chief resident. Jalisi performed a fellowship in head and neck oncology, cranial base surgery and microvascular surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville, Tennessee.
Jalisi has received many numerous honors and awards including the 2008 Charles Vaughan Excellence in clinical teaching and the 2007 Health Sciences Scholar. He lectures extensively and makes numerous presentations and grand rounds.
