Winter Percussion Ensemble places 4th at WGI Percussion World Championships

Hundreds of indoor drum line groups from across the country assembled in Dayton, Ohio this past weekend to compete in the Winter Guard International (WGI) Percussion World Championships. The Boston University Winter Percussion Ensemble (BUWPE) earned a 4th place finish from a field of 21 Independent A-Class groups with a score of 89.688. The placement is the highest in the ensemble's 5-year history. Boston University's 2009 program, CROASSFADE, explored the period of transition between multiple thoughts. Inspired by a DJs use of a crossfade switch to move seamlessly from selection to selection while changing moods effortlessly, BU took the same approach by featuring the contemporary sounds of the artist Sting. Throughout the production the ensemble implemented effortless transitions between rhythmic patterns, musical genres, geometric shapes, and audible textures. The BUWPE wishes to thank the following corporations for their continued support of the ensemble's achievements: Vic Firth sticks and mallets, Zildjian cymbals, and Pearl drums.
