Applied Strategic Planning Committee Holds First Retreat11/09/2009
The Applied Strategic Planning (ASP) Committee met for their first retreat on Monday, October 26 to Wednesday, October 28. The retreat began with a working dinner on Monday, which was followed by two full-day sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday that were facilitated by Dr. Bob Frazer of R. L. Frazer and Associates. R.L Frazer and Associates is the consulting firm that was hired by Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) to facilitate the ASP process. The mission of the first retreat was, "To create a future of choice for Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine, its faculty, staff, students, patients and all stake holders. Through the process of Applied Strategic Planning, the School and its people will achieve their highest potential in service to others, resulting in increased effectiveness, fulfillment, success and significance." In order to achieve this mission, the first task for the committee was to draft a vision of what they would like the School to look like in five, ten and fifteen years. Throughout the process the committee was constantly reminded that they would be putting together a draft that would not be finalized until input from all of the stakeholders both inside and outside the School was gathered. To gather this input the ASP Committee members will be forming shadow teams, which they will then brief on the retreat and planning process. Shadow team members will be asked to contribute feedback for inclusion in the finalized vision of the School. ASP Committee members will be contacting their shadow teams in the near future. In the meantime, anyone with questions can contact ASP Committee Co-Chairs Drs. Celeste Kong and John Guarente. "I encourage all members of the Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine to take an active role in this process," said Dean Jeffrey Hutter. "It will be hard work, but this process will give us the opportunity to develop programs of excellence that will separate us from our peer schools. Additionally, the timing could not be better since we are also in the process of evaluating our space needs and the ASP process will guide us as we work with the University in determining our future space programming." Photos from the retreat are available on GSDM's flickr account and Facebook page. The second ASP Committee retreat will be held January 19 to 21, 2010. |
