10 New Thought Leaders Join Faculty of Boston University School of Management

Reflecting the School’s Role as a World-Class Research Institute

Boston University School of Management (SMG) welcomes 10 new full-time faculty for the 2009/2010 academic year, intensifying the School’s emphasis on scholarship and emphasizing its role as a world-class research institution.

 These new thought leaders are:

James Rebitzer, Professor of Management, Economics & Public Policy/Chair, Business Policy & Law Department

BACKGROUND
Professor Rebitzer joins SMG from the Case Western Reserve University’s Weatherhead School of Management.   At Case Western, he has held two chaired positions as the Mannix Medical Mutual Chair and the Frank Tracy Carlton Chair in Economics. Prior to this, he was Associate Professor at MIT’s Sloan School of Management and Assistant Professor at the University of Texas at Austin.

Professor Rebitzer received his Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and his B.S. from University of Illinois-Urbana

RESEARCH SPECIALITIES
The economics of organizations, and incentive systems and personnel economics

Chrysanthos Dellarocas, Associate Professor of Management Information Systems

BACKGROUND
Professor Dellarocas joins SMG from the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business.  Prior to Maryland, he was Visiting Professor at NYU’s Stern School of Business and an Associate Professor of Management at MIT’s Sloan School of Management.

Professor Dellarocas received his Diploma in Electrical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (Greece), an M.S. and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

RESEARCH SPECIALITIES
The impact of marketing activities of the financial performance of firms

Robert Marquez, Associate Professor of Finance

Professor Marquez joins SMG from Arizona State University’s W.P. Carey School of Business since 2006.   At Arizona, he has held chaired position of the Craig and Rhonda Cerny Professor in Finance.   Prior to this, he was Assistant Professor of Finance at the University of Maryland and Visiting Assistant Professor of Finance at the Wharton School of Business. 

Professor Marquez received his A.B. in Economics from the University of California at Berkeley and his Ph.D. in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Banking and corporate finance theory

Siobhan O’Mahony, Associate Professor of Strategy & Innovation

BACKGROUND
Professor O’Mahony joins SMG from the University of California at Davis’ Graduate School of Management.  Prior to this, she was Assistant Professor at the Harvard Business School’s Negotiation, Organizations and Markets Group.

Professor O’Mahony received her B.S. and M.P.A. from Cornell University and her Ph.D. in Organization Studies from Stanford University.

How community forms influence the adaption and diffusion of technology, knowledge and innovation

Berardino Palazzo, Assistant Professor of Finance

BACKGROUND
Professor Palazzo recently completed his Ph.D. in Economics at New York University. He received his B.A. and M.A. in Economics from Bocconi University, Milan (Italy).

Asset pricing, corporate finance, macroeconomics, and econometrics

Delvon Parker, Assistant Professor of Operations & Technology Management

BACKGROUND
Professor Parker recently completed his Ph.D. from Michigan State University. He also received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from Michigan State University. 

RESEARCH SPECIALTIES
The interrelationships among the structures of manufactured products and their supporting production systems

Timothy Simcoe, Assistant Professor of Strategy & Innovation

BACKGROUND
Professor Simcoe joins SMG from the University of Toronto’s J.L. Rotman School of Management.  Prior to this, he was Senior Consultant in Economics for Ernst & Young and a Research Assistant at the Council for Economic Advisers.

Professor Simcoe received his A.B. in Applied Math and Economics from Harvard University, and an M.A. in Economics and Ph.D. in Business Administration from the University of California at Berkeley. 

RESEARCH SPECIALTIES
The application of economics and econometrics to standards-setting processes

Remi Trudel, Assistant Professor of Marketing

BACKGROUND
Professor Trudel recently completed his Ph.D. at the University of Western Ontario’s Richard Ivey School of Business. He received his B.G.S. and M.B.A. degrees from Simon Fraser University in Canada. 

RESEARCH SPECIALTIES
Ethical consumerism, consumer judgment and decision making

Yanbo Wang, Assistant Professor of Strategy & Innovation

BACKGROUND
Professor Wang recently completed his Ph.D at the Sloan School of Management at MIT. He received his B.L. in International Studies from Peking University (China), an M.A. in Political Science from the University of Arizona, and doctoral coursework in Political Science from the University of Pennsylvania.

RESEARCH SPECIALTIES
Social networking relationships and their effect on entrepreneurship (primarily focused on China)

Julie Lei Zhu, Assistant Professor of Accounting

BACKGROUND
Professor Zhu recently completed his Ph.D. from the Columbia Business School. She received her M.S. in Finance from Boston College, her M.S. in Accounting from Temple University, and her B.A. from Fudan University (P.R. China).
