BU teams beat MBAs from Babson, MIT, and more in APICS operations management case competition

School of Management undergraduates take first place!

The Winning Team!

The Winning Team!

A second instance this year of BU undergrads upsetting teams from top-ranked MBA programs, providing more evidence of the strength of the School’s award-winning undergraduate curriculum

Boston University School of Management undergraduate and MBA teams triumphed at the APICS Northeast District First Annual Student Competition on Saturday, April 18, 2009, taking both first and third prize, respectively.

The event, run by the Boston chapter of the Association for Operations Management, APICS, was “designed to simulate real-world conditions where [student teams] are challenged with difficult problems with limited time to analyze issues and present solutions to senior management.”

Eleven teams attended, with undergraduates competing alongside MBA students in the same division.  Also vying for top prize were:

  • 1 MBA team from Boston College (placing 2nd)
  • 2 MBA teams from MIT
  • 2 MBA teams from Babson
  • 1 MBA team from Northeastern
  • 1 MBA team from Bentley
  • 1 undergraduate team from Bryant College
  • 1 undergraduate team from Johnson & Wales

The first-place victors were Boston University School of Management undergraduates Jenna Klebanoff, Carla Elvy, VB Suresca, and Allison Lewis.

The third-place winners were the School’s first-year MBA students Luke Donaher, Kristen Cox, Joseph Brusniak, and Muhammad Siddiqui.

The success of the BU undergraduates follows on the heels of another big triumph for the School’s BSBA program and its award-winning curriculum:  BU undergrad finance team—competing against MBAs from Harvard, MIT, Tuck, and more—recently won the New England Investment Research Challenge, then placed 3rd in the Americas.
