Boston Business Journal reports BU’s New Venture group “made the most difference” in entrepreneur’s success
In their article “Schools boost tech-transfer efforts, and VCs take note,” by Jesse Noyes, Boston Business Journal notes the crucial role in entrepreneur Raj Mohanty’s success played by Boston University’s New Ventures group.
The group is affiliated with Boston University School of Management and its Institute for Technology Entrepreneurship and Commercialization (ITEC), through ITEC’s eSPRIT student intern program, entrepreneurship education program, and collaborative efforts with Boston University International Incubator Program.
Noyes reports,
Initially, Raj Mohanty was concerned about attracting investors to his Boston University spinout company.
But when it came to raising the company’s first $8 million in funding, Mohanty, the founder and chief technology officer of Boston-based startup Sand9 Inc., said ultimately the university’s new ventures group made the most difference.
“Overall the local (venture capital industry) is positive about technology companies coming out of places like Boston University,” he said.
Started only two years ago, the new ventures group was formed within the university’s office of technology department in an effort to spur a greater number of spinouts into the marketplace.
