Big City Ambition
I was born in Alabama and graduated from high school in Maryland. I always knew I wanted to attend college in a big city. I visited Boston for the first time on a cold and windy day that didn’t impress me that much. Then I came for Open House in the spring on a beautiful day and fell in love—not just with the city, but with the people, the building, and the program.
My concentrations are marketing and law. I love any chance to be creative, and marketing allows me to integrate that urge into my more organized business side. And I’ve always been intrigued by the law; it’s not perfect, but I like the level of detail involved and the process of understanding how a large body of knowledge works together.
CORE Confidence
My experience in MK323 with Professor Hibbard truly affected me as a person. It challenged me to be a better leader and trust my teammates. It taught me that I can’t always have all the control and gave me an opportunity to put my marketing skills to work. I now understand more about myself and see that I am especially drawn to the advertising side of marketing.
Still, I don’t have a five-year plan. I’m not sure I even have a five-month plan. The best thing about an SMG degree is that it gives me so many options. I don’t feel like I have to choose until I’m ready. Once I graduate in May, I’ll set my sights on securing a job by September and then on figuring out how to balance my new life with my new income.
I do feel like I’m putting my SMG skills to use everyday already—in my internship at Arnold Worldwide, during job interviews, and in so many other ways. Most importantly, SMG has taught me how to handle myself in a professional manner and think creatively about how to solve any problem.
