Gary Birnberg ('85) named to Brazilian and French-American Commercial Dispute Resolution Panels

Gary Birnberg is the 1st person in the USA to be named to the mediation panel of CBMA Centro Brasileiro de Mediação e Arbitragem, based in Rio de Janeiro. Founded jointly by three key Brazilian business associations: ACRJ (commerce), FENASEG (industry), e FIRJAN (insurance), CBMA is one of the premier conflict resolution bodies in Brazil.
Additionally, Mr. Birnberg has been named as an arbitrator and mediator to the Joint Panel of two leading alternative dispute resolution institutions: CPR the International Institute for Conflict Prevention & Resolution, based in New York, and CMAP the Centre de Médiation et d’Arbitrage de Paris, the dispute resolution center of CCIP the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Paris.
The Joint Panel is comprised of highly qualified French-English bilingual neutrals competent to handle complex commercial cross-border disputes involving billions of dollars.
Mr. Birnberg worked as a management consultant for over 25 years, both in the Paris office of the global consultancy Oliver Wyman and independently, before focusing his legal background and business expertise on dispute resolution, in which he maintains an active practice under the brand Global Resolution. In addition to these appointments, he sits as a neutral on several other arbitration and mediation panels, including ones of AAA the American Arbitration Association, FINRA the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, and the CPR Panel of Distinguished Neutrals.
Mr. Birnberg earned his MBA from INSEAD, in Fontainebleau France, his Juris Doctor from Boston University School of Law, and his B.A. in International Relations from the University of Pennsylvania. He has been admitted to four state bars and certified by the Florida Supreme Court as both a Civil Circuit and Appellate Mediator. He is an active participant in community affairs, including as a committee chair and multiple-term member of the Board of Directors of the French-American Chamber of Commerce of Florida.
In addition to French and English, Mr. Birnberg speaks Portuguese fluently and is a permanent resident of and maintains extensive professional activities in Brazil.
