Friday Reminder - May 14, 2010

Hello Everyone,

I hope you enjoyed the harbor cruise on Wednesday! We all look forward to meeting your families at the Graduation Dinner this evening, as well as watching you graduate this weekend!
I’m sad to say that this is your last official Friday Reminder of the semester. It’s been an amazing year for all of us at the OGIP and it’s truly been a pleasure getting to know each of you throughout the school year.
Please read through this entire message very carefully for last minute information and reminders about the Commencement ceremony on Sunday.
Most importantly, please remember to arrive at the Agganis Arena no later than 8:00AM on Sunday to line up for commencement!
Friday Reminder – May 14, 2010
1.   TONIGHT!  Graduation Dinner at The Castle (LL.M. in American Law and LL.M. in Intellectual Property Law) -- Friday, May 14th, from 5PM to 8PM. Join the members of the OGIP as we celebrate all of your hard work over the past year. We will have a buffet of pasta, chicken, hors d'oeuvres and desserts.  Drinks (including beer, wine, soft drinks, coffee and tea) will also be available.  We will have several tables set up for those who would like to sit down. Please bring your family members with you – we’d love to meet them! Also, some students have asked about attire, specifically whether or not ‘traditional dress’ from your home country is appropriate. You are more than welcome to wear your traditional attire if you like so please feel free to do so!
2.   Final Grades. Later this morning, you will be able to view your final grades through the Student Link at  Congratulations everyone!
3.   Not Attending the Commencement Ceremony?  If your plans have changed at the last minute, please let me know if you will NOT be attending Sunday’s Commencement ceremony.  I will be organizing all of your diplomas in a special order today, so if you’re not coming, I need to pull your diploma in order to avoid any confusion on Sunday. (If you have already told me that you are not attending, you don’t need to tell me again.)
4.   Commencement Regalia.  You should try on your commencement regalia before Sunday just to make sure it’s not too small and also leave it on a hanger to let the wrinkles fall out.  There’s nothing worse than being photographed all day in a gown that looks like you slept in it!  You will be able to return your regalia after the Commencement ceremony.
5.   Concentration Certificates.  For those of you who fulfilled the requirements for either the International Business Practice or the IP concentration within the American Law program, you can come to the OGIP and pick up your official concentration certificate beginning on Tuesday, May 18th.
6.   OGIP and Career Advising ONLINE Exit Surveys (For American Law and IP Law Students only).   We are so very close to having 100% completion of the exit surveys!!! Only 16 of you still have to complete these surveys in order to reach this goal.  You could be a part of the first graduating class ever to accomplish this amazing feat.   So don’t delay, complete your surveys today!  Most importantly, your feedback is valuable to us and we want to hear from each of you! Once we have received both of your questionnaire responses, you can come to the OGIP to obtain a copy of the class photo.  If you haven’t yet stopped by our office, you can pick-up the photo at any time.
For your reference, I include links to both surveys here:

~ Graduation FAQ’s (Frequently Asked Questions)~
When should you arrive for the Law Commencement Ceremony?
All LL.M. in American Law and IP students are required to arrive at the Agganis Arena no later than 8AM to line up.  Please enter the Agganis Arena via the side entrance marked "Hockey Athletic Office" on Harry Agganis Way, across from BU Police Department You will then march in together to be seated in time for the ceremonies to commence at 9:00AM sharp.
What about your guests?
There is no limit to the number of people you can invite, as the arena can accommodate a large number of people.
What should you wear?
You must be wearing your black cap and gown to participate in the Commencement ceremony.  You should pick up your cap and gown from the BU Barnes and Noble by the Friday before graduation and you should open the package to make sure all items are included and that everything fits.  Rented regalia should be returned on Sunday, May 16th following the ceremony and reception.  You will receive your deposit when the regalia are returned, at the Agganis Arena Main Ticket Office.  Contact Barnes & Noble at 617.267.8484 should you have any questions regarding regalia rental or return.  The regalia for LL.M. graduates consist of the following:

 -  a black tam (a cap that looks like a beret);
 -  a gold tassel (worn on the tam);
 -  a black gown (If Barnes and Noble gives you a red one, give it back and ask for a black one. The red gown is for JDs.); and
 -  a hood colored purple, red and white (the law school hood).
You should dress comfortably, but remember that you will likely want to take photos after you return your gown, so dress appropriately.  You should leave your backpacks, purses and bags at home or with your guests because your hands need to be free and you will not be allowed to carry items into the Arena during the procession.
What happens after you arrive at the Agganis Arena?
You will need to check in with Sarah Bellott and Megan Faillace (our Admissions Coordinator) at the table for the American Law and IP Law graduates.  You will receive your name card from either Sarah or Megan, and you will be instructed to go to your place in the line up where you will meet your “Graduation Aide” (a fellow graduate who has graciously agreed to help Sarah organize the line up area).  It is very important that you stand in the correct order, as you will be instructed, because your diplomas are in that same order.  If one person is out of place, you could ALL receive the wrong diplomas, and we certainly don’t want that to happen!! Please read through the detailed rundown of what to expect, and what is expected of you, that we have posted online:
Remember, you need to arrive and be set to line up by 8:00AM.
What happens after the ceremony?
Immediately following the ceremony there will be a reception for all graduates and their guests in the lower level gymnasium of the FitRec center from 11:00AM until 12:30PM.  You will process into this area directly after the ceremony with your fellow graduates.  (Staff members will lead the way so you do not get lost on the way to the FitRec location.)  Look for the sign for LL.M. in American Law and LL.M. in IP graduates and meet your family and friends at that location.

Where can you find additional information about the Commencement Ceremony?
