Choate, Hall & Stewart Attorney Receives Mentor Program Alumni Award from Boston University
Boston, MA, November 19, 2009 - Matthew Andrus, an associate in the Private Equity Group at Choate, Hall & Stewart LLP, today received the "Mentor Program Alumni Award" from Boston University (BU) School of Law. Each year, BU School of Law selects an exceptional mentor to honor - based on student feedback - for their dedication to the Mentor Program. The Mentor Program was designed to enhance first-year students' educational experience and facilitate their transition to careers in the legal profession by connecting students to alumni in the Boston area. Mr. Andrus has been involved with the program since 2005, and has mentored ten students.
"We are very proud of Matt and his ongoing commitment to mentoring young law students," said William Gelnaw and John Nadas, co-managing partners at Choate, Hall & Stewart LLP. "Mentoring is very important in this profession, and this award is a well-deserved acknowledgment of the great job Matt has done to guide and support our future lawyers."
At Choate, Mr. Andrus represents private equity and venture capital funds and their portfolio companies through all phases of the funds' investment process and their portfolio companies' life-cycle, from initial investment to exit. Mr. Andrus also represents companies in general corporate matters, negotiating and structuring mergers and acquisitions, equity and debt financings and recapitalizations, and in SEC and stock exchange compliance matters. Mr. Andrus is a member of Choate's hiring committee, and has been named a Massachusetts Super Lawyers Rising Star.
Mr. Andrus recently received a "Pro Bono Recognition Award" from the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law of the Boston Bar Association (LCCR) for his leadership in the Belin Economic Justice Project. The Belin Economic Justice Project facilitates the provision of free legal business assistance to community development organizations and low-income entrepreneurs who are starting or expanding small businesses located in underserved communities in Massachusetts. Mr. Andrus worked with the LCCR to develop an ongoing program for Choate attorneys to conduct business law workshops for small business owners in East Boston and provide pro bono legal services.
Mr. Andrus received his J.D., cum laude, from BU School of Law in 2004, where he was an articles editor for the Journal of Science & Technology Law. Prior to law school, he was a marketing manager for a startup telecommunications software company. He received his B.S., cum laude, from Tufts University in 1998.
