Alumni on the Political Scene: Alumni Martha Coakley (’79) and Michael Flaherty (’94) run for Massachusetts offices

Martha Coakley ('79), the current Attorney General for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, is running for the U.S. Senate seat previously held by Senator Ted Kennedy. Coakley has dedicated the last 20 years to public service, and in 2007 she became the first female attorney general in the state. She now aims to take her groundbreaking career to new heights.

Michael Flaherty ('94), current Boston City Councilor,  is running for the office of Mayor of Boston. A lifelong Boston resident, Flaherty served from 1996 to 1998 as an assistant district attorney for the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office. His love of the city and hope for its future now lead him to face off against Boston's longest-running mayor.
