Spring into Education in 2008

Spring into Education in 2008

Take a 2-credit course at the School of Education to introduce yourself to many of the diverse ways you can become an educator:

Share Your Love of Reading with Young Children

Students registering for ED251 “Volunteering in Urban Settings” will learn about the importance of early literacy experiences and will have the opportunity to become Reach Out and Read volunteers. Reach Out and Read (ROR) is a national non-profit organization that promotes early literacy by giving new books to children and advice to parents about the importance of reading aloud in pediatric exam rooms across the nation. Boston University student volunteers will read to children as they wait for appointments at Boston Medical Center.

*Current Reach Out and Read volunteers are also encouraged to register.

Would You Like To Volunteer in Boston?

Register for ED 251: Volunteering in Urban Settings

Do you volunteer or plan to volunteer in Boston? Would you like to join with others to discuss your experiences? Students taking ED 251 will read about social issues that affect urban areas and will discuss how their volunteer efforts can make a difference.

Step UP To Improve Education For Boston Public School Students

Volunteer to help students improve their performance at one of Boston’s most underperforming public schools

Boston University is one of five universities involved in Step UP, an unprecedented collaboration with the Boston Public Schools and the City of Boston to help ten local schools. Help improve student performance at one of Boston University’s partner schools, the William Monroe Trotter Elementary School in Dorchester:

- Help restore the school library

- Read to groups of children who visit the library

- Provide support to children in class and at special school events
