Update on Construction - May 16, 2007

Work on the new residence hall proceeds on schedule. The last portions of the foundation walls were poured at the end of April, and backfilling soil around the foundation is well underway.

Utility work begins immediately after Commencement on Monday, May 21.  This work will require excavation in the streets around the site and is expected to continue throughout the summer.  Communications lines and a steam line will be installed in the North Connector Road from behind 10 Buick Street to the rear of the new residence hall.  A natural gas line will be installed along Harry Agganis Way in early June.

Steel erection begins in May.  In mid-May, the first of two tower cranes will be erected.  Each tower crane may extend over 500 feet in the air, raising steel and other pieces of building materials into place.  The topping off of the building, the installation of the final piece of steel, is scheduled to occur in early January, 2008.
