Boston University College of Health & Rehabilitation Sciences: Sargent College - Occupational Therapy Department has chosen this year to award Special Recognition to a distinguished alumnus and faculty member.

Deane B. McCraith, MS, OTR/L, LMFT (retired Boston University faculty member and 1983 graduate of the Boston University post-professional Master of Science program) was chosen to acknowledge her generosity, vision, and commitment to creating a positive learning environment for our OT students.  Dean's contributions throughout the years have been numerous and significant, and the following are just a few examples:
She cared deeply about the quality of student’s learning, and developed and taught a variety of courses and added an essential fieldwork component to facilitate meaningful learning experiences outside of the classroom for students. She very willingly continues to guest lecture in many of our current courses. She made a generous donation to fund major renovations in classroom SAR-610 adding state-of-the-art AV technology, windows to capture natural light, and attractive furniture, all with the goal of creating an esthetically pleasing and dynamic teaching environment.
She established the Student Enrichment Fund to offer exciting learning experiences for our students by providing subsidies for transportation and registration fees for students to attend the Annual MAOT Conference.
She served as advisor to Pi Theta Epsilon (PTE), the national occupational therapy honor society. She helped us design an innovative curriculum that is congruent with contemporary beliefs about occupational therapy.
She challenged us to think creatively.

Deane's dedication to Boston University Sargent College is very much appreciated by the faculty and students. Accordingly, the occupational therapy faculty has voted to award her the Special Recognition as a distinguished alumna and faculty member of our program.
