Question Which dining plan should I choose?
Answer Before arriving on campus many freshmen chose the 14-Plus Plan which guarantees them 14 meals each week with an allotment of dining points they can use at locations such as The Union Court and Breadwinners. Others chose the Unlimited because they believe they want to eat all three meals each day in the residence dining rooms. Others who might be only used to eating 1 full meal each day choose the 330 Plan or the 250 Plan – both of which offer the flexibility to use as many or as few meals as they want each week. Once freshmen arrive on campus and settle in they often find their routines change – specifically their eating habits. For the first 10 weeks of each semester, students can change their dining plans.

Question If I live off campus and have a Convenience Points Plan and want to take a friend to lunch in The Towers residence dining room, can I sign my friend in?
Answer

Students who reside off campus and have a Convenience Points Plan, optional dining plan, or an Apartment Plan do not have guest sign-in privileges at any residence on campus.

Students who reside off campus will have access to the Fresh Food Co. at West Campus and the Shelton Hall residence dining room during ‘meal’ and Late Nite Café hours.

Students who reside off campus and only have a Convenience Points Plan will not be allowed access to on-campus residences or residence dining rooms or Late Nite Cafés at any time unless they are signed in as a guest.

Students who reside off campus and have an optional dining plan (Unlimited, 14-Plus Plan, 9-Plus Plan, Kosher Plan 330 Plan, or 250 Plan) will be allowed access to residence dining rooms during ‘meal’ hours.

Students who reside off campus and have an Apartment Plan will be allowed access to all residence dining rooms during ‘meal’ hours and Late Nite Café hours.

Question How do I purchase more Convenience Points?
Answer During the academic year, students can purchase Convenience Points as a charge to their student account to be billed at a later date by connecting to the Student Link, or visiting the Terrier Card Office on the lower level of the George Sherman Union. Each semester during the academic year, students are able to charge up to $1,500 to their student account. Students can purchase any amount of Convenience Points in $25 increments at the Terrier Card Office and pay with a check. Parents, family, and friends can go online to Give the Point! and purchase Convenience Points as gifts to Boston University students who have Convenience Points Plans.

Question Is there a deadline for changing plans?
Answer Yes. For the 2009–10 academic year, you can change dining plans any time before November 12, 2009, for fall semester, and before March 18, 2010, for spring semester. Spring semester change requests submitted by January 10, 2010, will be effective the first day of dining service for Semester II. Those students living in University-owned, apartment-style residences, or those living off campus who have selected a dining plan, Apartment Plan, or Convenience Points Plan should refer to their agreement for change and cancellation dates because deadlines may vary.

Question Are there additional costs to changing dining plans?
Answer Possibly, because each dining plan has varying amounts of meals and dining points, additional costs will be incurred if your meal and/or dining points usage is greater than expected levels at the time of your change.

Question Do I lose my Semester I dining points or guest meals if I don't use them?
Answer No. For dining plans with meals alloted on a weekly basis, unused Semester I dining points and guest meals automatically carry over to Semester II and for dining plans with meals alloted on a semester basis, unused Semester I meals, guest meals and dining points automatically carry over to Semester II as long as your dining plan is still active for Semester II. (However, meals, guest meals, and dining points do not carry over from academic year to academic year.) If a dining plan or Apartment Plan is cancelled, there is no carry over of unused meals or dining points. If because of a move from a dormitory-style residence to an apartment-style residence or off campus a student changes from a dining plan or Apartment Plan to a Convenience Plan only, there is no carry over of unused meals or dining points.

Question What happens if I don't spend all my points or use all my meals and guest meals by the end of the academic year?
Answer As long as you remain an officially registered student at the University, your balance of Convenience Points will be carried over from the end of the academic year to the beginning of the summer and from the end of the summer to the beginning of the next academic year. If you choose and submit a request in writing, Convenience Points are 100 percent refundable at the end of the academic year or summer, if your remaining balance is $5 or more. Your unused dining points are refundable at the end of the academic year at 50 percent of their value (when your balance is $10 or more). There is no refund for unused guest meals or unused dining plan meals at any time.
