FitRec Membership Open House for BU Alumni, Faculty & Staff

The Fitness & Recreation Center will host a Membership Open House for all BU faculty/staff and alumni. This is your opportunity to try out the facility all week for free, including the 18,000 square foot fitness center, seven courts, two pools, indoor track, racquetball, squash and much more. Free fitness classes will also be available on weekday evenings. Class times and titles will be posted soon at the link below. Email fitrec@bu.edu to pre-register for the event, or stop by anytime during the Open House to sign up in person at the FitRec Front Desk.

Le Recycling Cafe

Every Monday, student recycling coordinators will be collecting small electronics, Brita filters, batteries, cell phones, ink cartridges, and light bulbs to be recycled. While you're there, make sure to fill up your reusable mug with complimentary Espresso Royale coffee.

Mammography Screening Clinic

Boston Medical Center Division of Breast Imaging offers an evening mammography clinic on a weekly basis. State-of-the-art full-field digital mammography tests will be performed by licensed and nationally certified technologists. To schedule an appointment, call 617-414-9729. Walk-in screening mammograms will be available, however, an appointment is strongly recommended.

A discussion with Nonie Darwish

A discussion on Women's Rights in the Middle East with popular writer and speaker, Nonie Darwish. Darwish is an Egyptian-American Human Rights Activist, scholar of Islam, and founder of Arabs for Israel. She is the author of "Now They Call Me Infidel: Why I Renounced Jihad for America, Israel and the War on Terror" and "Cruel and Usual Punishment: The Terrifying Global Implications of Islamic Law." Astronomy Open Night

Astronomy Open Night at the Observatory is a chance for people to come observe the night sky through telescopes as well as binoculars and see things they would otherwise might not get to see, while learning some astronomy. The Open Nights are held on most Wednesday evenings throughout the year, weather permitting, at the Coit Observatory at Boston University, located right above the Astronomy Department. The stairwell to the Observatory is on the fifth floor right next to room 520. The weather is always a factor when observing. Unfortunately we can't control the weather and we can't observe when there are clouds, haze, or rain; so when the weather is bad, the Open Night will be canceled. Predicting the weather in New England isn't easy, so we won't know if the Open Night will be held or not until the day of the program. To find out if the Open Night will be held, call our information number no earlier than two hours before the scheduled starting time. This lets us make the decision as late as possible while still giving those who live farther away time to get here. Please note that telescopes are outside so dress appropriately.

Dance Marathon Winter Warm-Up

For the past eight years, Dance Marathon has been the largest annual fundraiser at BU. However, we pride ourselves on raising more than just money. Thousands of dollars are donated each year to two organizations that assist children and their families who are combating pediatric HIV and AIDS. The Dance Marathon will take place on March 27-28, 2010 and we are confident that it is going to be THE event of the year. As always, participants can expect theme hours, prizes, free giveaways, awesome music, live performances, and PLENTY of food to keep them going all night long! We would love for you to become involved in any way you can. Stop by our Winter Warm-Up event to get registered as a dancer, team, moraler, or volunteer. A cappella groups will be performing and complimentary snacks served.
