A Civil War Christmas by Paula Vogel

Huntington Theatre Company presents "A Civil War Christmas" by Paula Vogel and directed by Jessica Thebus. It's Christmas Eve 1864. In the White House, President and Mrs. Lincoln plot their gift-giving. On the Potomac, a young rebel soldier challenges a Union blacksmith's mercy. In the streets, a fugitive from slavery searches for her daughter on the night she finds freedom. In this new play with music from Pulitzer Prize winner Paula Vogel, these stories and more are woven into an American tapestry, showing us that the gladness of one's heart is the greatest gift of all. This production includes beloved holiday music and will be enhanced by local choirs caroling before each performance. Tickets available online or at the Huntington Box Office. Aventura in Concert

Aventura is one of the most unique and innovative musical groups on the scene today. After more than ten years of sparring in the music business, these four young, dynamic guys with a seldom-seen chemistry continue to auto-produce soulful, original music that gleams with excellence. They are the first "Bachata-boy band," the first band to fuse the essence of bachata with R & B, hip hop and other American pop styles; the first Bachata band to perform in English, Spanish and 'Spanglish.' They are also the first Bachata group to feature songs that address serious life situations, delighting fans in the process, such as 'Amor de madre' (Mother's Love), 'Hermanita' (Little Sister), 'Papi dijo' (Daddy Said), and 'La niña' (The Little Girl). J. S. Bach and the Divine Idea

Associate Professor James Johnson will give a lecture-performance featuring Bach's Partita for keyboard No. 4, his Chromatic Fantasy and Fugue, and various preludes and fugues from the Well-Tempered Clavier. A reception will follow the presentation.

A Question of Mercy

Stricken with AIDS, Anthony's life has become a myriad of endless symptoms and hopeless desperation. With the help of his lover and caretaker, Thomas, and friend, Susanah, Anthony seeks the guidance of an understanding doctor who will put an end to his suffering. Allegrettos: A Winter Wonderland

Allegrettos Annual Winter Concert. Tickets at the door. Admission: $7; $5 BU students; $3 A Cappella Members.
