Moms in Chief: Gender Stereotypes, Politics, and Presidential Nominees’ Spouses

Join Tammy R. Vigil as she discusses the function of spouses in recent presidential campaigns and scrutinizes how their portrayal by opponents, the press, and themselves has challenged or reinforced of perceptions gender roles and of women as political beings. This talk is based on her book Moms in Chief: The Rhetoric of Republican Motherhood and the Spouses of Presidential Nominees, 1992-2016 (University Press of Kansas, 2019) and will include a brief question and answer session.
