The HAA Lecture Series brings together historians of art, architecture and material culture specializing in diverse fields and genres. Prominent scholars are invited to share their latest research with the BU community in a lecture followed by Q&A and a light reception. The HAA Lecture Series is organized by a committee of graduate students and faculty from the department.

"The Moiré Effect: Robert Rauschenberg, Print, and Interference.”
Focusing on Rauschenberg’s work of the 1970s as a key example, this lecture will trace the moiré effect in its broad historical context as well as in its technical links to twentieth-century print and electronic technologies. It will explore what the eruption of moiré can tell us about the dynamic relationships between print, textiles, digital media, and photography in this period, and about new models of spatiality that these interferences encouraged in the arts.
