Summary

Photo Exhibiton + Lunch Talk: México, Cultura para la Armonía

Description

Join us for a presentation by Mexico’s new Consul General in Boston, Emilio Rabasa Gamboa, and two young artists from the Colectivo Comunitario de Fotografía of San Pablo del Monte: Alma Janaí Calvario López and Jacqueline Mastranzo Capilla. Moderated by Adela Pineda, Director of the Latin American Studies Program at BU. Ten young people from 13 to 22 form the Colectivo Comunitario de Fotografía of San Pablo del Monte in the south of Tlaxcala. The Collective is part of a strategy, promoted by the Ministry of Culture through its Directorate General of Popular Culture and the Tlaxcala Institute of Culture, of rebuilding the social fabric in locations affected by various social problems. Using culture as a tool of transformation, it has promoted the creation of community groups in visual, performing and graphic arts, and film, radio and music. The members of the photographic collective are learning to use photographic techniques to portray the essence of their community: traditions, daily life, characters, social issues and the complex role of women. Photography has offered them the opportunity to become creators, not just spectators, of their own reality. Lunch provided! Free and open to public but RSVP requested for lunch.
