Faculty Council Distinguished Service Lecture

Summary

Faculty Council Distinguished Service Lecture

Description

"Faculty in the 21st Century: Scholarship is not Enough." Professor Mariner will discuss her recent Supreme Court brief in support of the Affordable Health Care Act as an example of ways that faculty can remain active and engaged citizens of both the academy and civic life. Professor Mariner's talk marks the first of what will be annual lectures sponsored by the Boston University Faculty Council to honor members of the BU community who, through their scholarship and civic engagement, challenge the misconception that higher education is out of touch with American life. Professor Mariner is the Edward R. Utley Professor of Health Law at the School of Public Health and Faculty Director of the JD-MPH dual degree program. She is also Professor of Law at BU School of Law and Professor of Socio-Medical Sciences at BU School of Medicine. Professor Mariner combines teaching and research on patient rights, risk regulation, health reform legislation, health insurance, and ERISA, and has published more than 100 articles in the legal, medical and health policy literature.
