Laurence Senelick: Seeing Chekhov Whole: On Translating the Complete Plays of Anton Chekhov

Laurence Senelick is Fletcher Professor of Drama at Tufts University, an Alt-Fellow of the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin, and a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. His many books include the award-winning The Chekhov Theatre, The Changing Room: Sex, Drag and Theatre, and The Age and Stage of George L. Fox. His translations of plays from nine languages have been frequently performed; the most recent is Jo van IJssel de Schepper-Becker’s, Mustn’t Do It! Last year he published the anthology The American Stage in the Library of America. His work has been recognized by grants from the NEH, the ACLS, and the Guggenheim Foundation, and he has been awarded the St. George medal of the Russian Federation for services to Russian art and scholarship.
